Beto’s article is excellent. What we need is a (no more than 10 points) list of what we are for - short points, easy to advertise and campaign on - for “we the people” (also a short punchy phrase that should ALWAYS be included in Dem’s events and ads) to rally behind. Where are our Dem leaders? Thanks Beto for being out front.

Ronald Reagan and the GOP sabotaged Jimmy’s re-election during the 1980 presidential campaign. See article below.

Lawmaker Confirms ‘October Surprise’ Plot to Sabotage Jimmy Carter’s Reelection

A former Texas lawmaker, compelled by the news of former president Jimmy Carter entering hospice care, has come forward to reveal that there was, in fact, a secret GOP effort in 1980 to prevent Iran from releasing more than 50 Americans hostages until after that year’s presidential election.

It’s Blatantly False. Carter’s Approval Ratings Were dismal his final two years. It was so bad, that Ted Kennedy primary challenged him.

That is an Egregious Lie. Please STOP with the Misinformation. It’s No different from MAGA.

Carter was quite unpopular in 1979-80 especially after the Iranian Hostage Crisis. The RNC did NOT think he was going to be nominated. TED KENNEDY primary challenged President Carter. That’s how bad his approval ratings were.

Seriously, LYING is not the way.

Sorry, but I was there. I was 21 and voted for the first time in 1980. I was in college and worked on Jimmy’s campaign in 79-80, as did my parents. I remember exactly how the Reagan machine screwed him. You are entitled to your opinion, as I am to mine. Please stop hassling me.

Carter had dismal approval ratings at the time and was Primary Challenged by Senator Ted Kennedy. That’s The Reality instead of Deflecting Blame on Reagan and coming up with unproven partisan theories, look at the data. The Reality. By 1980, America was in its 12th year of Stagflation and a Lousy and unstable economy. The Malaise Automobile Period was at its peak.

Congrats to Zohran Mamdani for his nice win in NYC! 👏

It's wonderful to see a new face, the people are sick of the old, tired established Politician.

I don’t know if this is the start of a wave but it is the start of Dems realizing the current identity is NOT working. This is a brand moment for our party and I just hope we have the balls to run with it. We need fresh ideas.

Mamdani and others like him are the way forward for the Democratic Party. His win gives me hope for our future!

Why all the Bickering? Why not Unite the Party?

Expand full comment
Katherine Kilpatrick's avatar

It’s not bickering to say that the rank and file status quo Democrats who are older are too complacent. There are many who would agree that they care more about keeping their jobs than doing their jobs. They are funded by AIPAC, and therefore wouldn’t take a committed stand against the war in Gaza. Chuck Schumer wouldn’t even consider voting against the continuing resolution because…. Who the fuck cares why! Captain Capitulation needs to go, and anyone else who doesn’t seriously want to fight. We as Democrats are watching our party sit around and do NOTHING and it is absolutely INFURIATING. That is why Jasmine Crocket and Chris Murphy calling a spade a spade look like unicorns to us. It shouldn’t be progressive to want the things that Beto spoke about. If that’s bickering we need to burn the house down. I’ll bring the lighter fluid… who’s got a match

I don’t know who or what the future is of the party, at all (I hesitate to make blanket statements like this, well intentioned and I get what you mean that said), but I do know one thing for sure imo: that things definitely have to change from where we are today and regardless of beliefs on socialism, etc. Zohran’s candidacy in NYC for Mayor was ultimately intended to represent change from the status quo in defiance of the establishment wing of the Democratic party…and it accomplished that, to his credit.

Hopefully, Mamdani’s candidacy is a sign of things to come that the anger of the electorate right now also holds true for the Dem base in demanding change from the status quo (to be clear, not all Dems believe in socialism at all and many are in the core base of the party but are willing to give a Democratic socialist a chance is what happened with a different vision in NYC imo, and Islam is no less or more valid than Judaism but is a religious faith Muslims believe in is all, etc. etc.).

I personally believe fascism is worse than socialism, but History has proven neither ideology tends to work well in execution which is why Democratic socialism is different from standard socialism but still is not something that is easy to convince many to get behind without results first to clarify— so hopefully Zohran will get a chance to deliver on it, if he beats Eric Adams: best of luck to him imo, in emerging victorious.

Americans deserve a change. The one good thing the tRump has done is united the People to take their Power back! I am sick of the Democrats vs Republicans. We need a complete government overhaul and Senator Sanders has a plan.

If you want to earn more money and have access to affordable housing, education, medical, child and elder care watch Senator Sanders' YouTube videos and check out his website. Sanders has a plan that benefits every American and millions of others across the globe. Really listen to his ideals. Then abandon your political party and stand beside Bernie, our hope for the future, and help make America greater than it has ever been before. Learn more at BernieSanders.com.

They tell me it can't be done but since we must rise to bring down the administration from hell then we should also rise to build a whole new political party run “by representatives of the people, by the people and for the people!” - Abraham Lincoln.

There has never been a better time to get the billionaire oligarchs out of our government and return the power to the people! Sanders can't do it alone - he needs support from all of us. Show the world the Power of the American People to get the billionaires out of our government, restore our civil liberties and rebuild a democracy that benefit the people of the 21st century!

Yeah for Beto who deserves to be among those making our laws. With people who know and understand what he has said, that is hope for the future. May his tribe increase!!!
