Well done, Beto, and all who helped make this possible!

Lost in the New York Times 'five take-always' or whatever they called it -- from the Texas primary -- is that Democrats together OUTVOTED Republicans by more than 100,000 votes, even with the nonsense the state pulled in Dallas. Since when was the last time *that* happened?

Lynn's avatar

Wondering if there were some crossover GOP voters who had enough.

War in Iran could be a tipping point.

Sharon Lawrence's avatar

There will be lots of crossovers. The private school push by the repubs is not popular.

It's Come To This's avatar

I'm betting quite a few.

Drew Julian's avatar

Probably so. Who has the stomach to vote for the likes of Paxton or Cornyn?

James K's avatar

Less than half. We'll see what happens in the runoff

James K's avatar

Plenty. Is it enough? I don't know.

It will be a moot point if trump and his goons make it so that only their ‘kind of people’ have their votes counted. Remember the ground swell raised by Kamala Harris? Remember the certainty that was in the air? Then trump said the quiet part out loud. He said his voters would never have to vote again. That's how sure he was that he’d win. Why? Well, I personally think that he and musk conspired to throw the election for trump. States are still gerrymandering, marginalizing certain groups snd minorities, using ICE bully boys to terrorize communities. Trump is already having his goons push the legislation that will grant him a third term in office, the Constitution be damned! The only way trump leaves the White House is feet first.

Yippee! I do hope Jasmine stays in the game somewhere in state. all hands on deck

JanJAN's avatar

Jasmine Is a brilliant Mind! We need her in Washington! A Judge, or someday a Vice President, then the Supreme Court! She should have a great future. If this country wasn’t misogynistic SHE WOULD BE A GREAT PRESIDENT!!

Winston Smith London Oceania's avatar

Don't forget potential Attorney General!

James K's avatar

She's still a firebrand in the House. I'm going to make a prediction with my $1 bet:

President: Gavin Newsom

Vice President: Jasmine Crockett

Speaker of the House: AOC

DOJ: Marc Elias

Assistant DOJ: Glen Kushner, maybe.

Winston Smith London Oceania's avatar

I second that. Jasmine is awesome.

SMcCann's avatar

Texas expat here, the country is counting on Texas to correct the course. Thank you for posting this Beto, and Jasmine, please stay in the game. Your clear voice is so needed.

Pat R's avatar

I spent my teenage and 20’s in TX. It is awesome to see this movement come alive. Let’s go!!!

Tim Mullaney's avatar

Talarico makes a fascinating contrast with Ted Cruz

Andi Levin's avatar

And to Cornyn & Paxton

JanJAN's avatar

Criminals in texas are often elected to office!

James K's avatar

Depends on the District.

James K's avatar

Depends on the District.

Lynn's avatar

Probably just another wolf in sheep's clothing - they always start out okay and then they drift into the usual Congress corruption.

James K's avatar

Possible, but I don't think so.

James K's avatar

Both are smart. Only one of them people actually like.

Patricia Smith's avatar

Crockett spoke truthfully and clearly. A few folks are afraid of her. I respect Talarico but it‘s obvious why he won. Get Crockett‘s strong talent on a Blue team and do not leave her behind. No more kid gloves, no more fragility.

Liz Burton's avatar

I agree she spoke truthfully and clearly. The problem was that, unlike Talarico, she never said anything about what she actually intended to do to address the problems. I also agree she needs to be kept active and available, and look forward to seeing her mature.

Patricia Smith's avatar

She is quite mature as a fully minted attorney and someone articulate and assertively speaking truth to power. There is nothing immature about her. Just too many fragile folks out there.

Liz Burton's avatar

Yes, she is. She’s politically immature and being manipulated by the national party because of it. Whether she participates willingly remains to be seen, but that fact was painfully evidenced by her last-minute choice to register. Her loss had nothing to do with her race or her gender or any of the other excuses you socual capitalists embrace inztead of clear policy.

James K's avatar

Yes, that may have been the problem.

James K's avatar

Its the uppity Black woman syndrome. Should be in the DSM-5R Diagnostic manual as a mental disorder.

You do know it’s 2026 and the “shackles” are long gone NEVER to return…

Yes, I do know that it is 2026.

Did you know that racism, bigotry , mysogeny, xenophobia, and superficial people still exist?

Look at our current President. He is all of those things.

Look at the Sydney Sweeney ads selling expensive "jeans" by acting sultry.

Look at the ads selling $2000 purses in a down turned economy - and selling out

That's superficial

I'm a moderate Independent who votes based on character and competence, not party I'm also a 28 year disabled veteran of Desert Storm and the Battle of Mogadishu in Somalia with the 5th Special Forces. I earned 43 awards and decorations protecting this country and its Constitution only to see an administration that hates anyone who isn't a White Christian Nationalist. And I am White.

I've lived in Clarksville for over 33 years. 15 of those years were in a 90% Black neighborhood. I've seen young Black men looking for work but they can't get hired because they don't have a college degree. Biden started a program that would pay for an Associate degree or a two year technical degree. Where is that program now?

He pushed a law through that would help people eliminate some of their college debt. Trump doesn't want to pay for that program because it would take money away from billionaires like him.

I worked for the Aftyn Behn campaign in Tennessee District 7. She won Montgomery county (where I live) in Clarksville. There is very little racism in Clarksville. She also won in Nashville. She lost in all 12 redneck counties.

I'm of Appalachian heritage and had racist, xenophobic parents and relatives. I have 4 college degrees, including Psychology and and http://history.So, yes, I do know what year it is and I have a pretty good idea of how people act and think.

A Walker's avatar

Psychology here as well, im probably one of those uppity Black females you are describing in your previous post

James K's avatar

Obviously, I am referring to how the current administration looks at them. Not how I look at them. You might want to take that 1000 lbs chip off your shoulder.

James K's avatar

I'm not being serious. I tend towards sarcasm, sometimes not very tactfully. Hold on to that chip as long as you can.

James K's avatar

Good for you. Kick ass and take names.

James K's avatar

And my cousin is JD Vance.

Liz Burton's avatar

So should the condition of being so brainwashed by identity politics all that's required is to present a candidate that ticks off enough of the right boxes and gets lots of media attention for not really doing much that's useful.

James K's avatar

If you're good looking and charismatic you have a better chance in this often superficial generation Style often Trumps substance. Not sure if the pun was intended. It's a crazy and confusing time to be an American. 🤔☹️

James K's avatar

Repetition is the weapon

When Leslie Stahl in an interview asked Donald Trump, "Mr. President, why is it that you lie all the time and when your lies are proven false you continue to tell them?"

His answer?

"Because that way when they hear the truth they won't believe it."

There is your brainwashing. A technique perfected by the likes of Ben Shapiro and Tucker Carlson.

Do the research. Look at the sources.

Wikipedia is a good source for information. Look at the little number at the end of a statement. Look down to the bottom of the page. There you will find the source. Check out the source.

Question anything that doesn't sound right. Just because you heard it on a podcast or read it on the Internet, that doesn't necessarily mean it's true.

Do your due diligence and you are far less likely to be dupped

Alan Stark's avatar

Thank you for your work. You have made a difference.

Jose Menendez's avatar

Excellent news 👏👏👏👏👏

Andi Levin's avatar

Thank you El Paso & Bexar counties, and the RGV for showing up for Marcos Velez for Lt. Gov. I never heard of him before I listened to the Stonewall Democrats live streamed debate. I had no candidate in mind for Lt Gov but Marcos blew me away. Talarico & Velez have very similar platforms, and will be🔥🔥🔥for this general

TJ's avatar

Thank you sir.

I’m very sorry to see Jasmine Crockett leaving the legislature. She is exactly the type of sharp forceful personality we need in Congress to counterbalance long-entrenched republican abuse of process. But when Texas has two great viable candidates to represent am happy to see their win. Hoping Crockett stays in the forefront of the Democratic Party.

Am sure James Talerico will represent Texas so much better than at this point whoever wins between Cornyn or Paxton. Neither of them should have the opportunity to represent anyone.

Seems Crenshaw wasn’t willing enough to drink every drop of the Kool-Aid served and lost his bidding for another term in Texas to another hard-line Texas state representative whose MAGA oozes from every pore, Steve Toth.

J Crockett will be in the next Democratic WH some where. I am sad we still have issues with voting women into Senate makes me sick. I like James T maybe Jasmine should run for Gov or AG as Paxton is out he a corrupt person

Andi Levin's avatar

I think Adam Kinzinger is in Texas 2. Even if Toto wins, he may become a 1 term Rep 🙏

Pat Rahikainen's avatar

Looked him up. He's from Illinois.

Sharon Lawrence's avatar

He moved to houston last year!

Pat Rahikainen's avatar

Thank you for correcting me. I honestly did not remember that.

Carol Ann's avatar

Jasmine Crockett is a huge talent, and she was very gracious in her concession speech. C'mon, TX Democrats! Bring it home in November!

LML's avatar

I look forward to watching a blood red state inject enough blue to turn it purple this next election cycle. Thank you Beto, your perseverance and dedication to fair election practices has and is making this possible.

James K's avatar

Texas Governor screwed up. His gerrymandering of one district by stealing votes from other districts made 10 districts vulnerable to a degree, more or less.

Could go 5-5, 6-4, 7-3. Hard to predict.

wendy moluf's avatar

Thank you for all that you have done to get us here, Beto. I think that early and new vote turnout we had in this primary is a tangible result of your work.

Mar Avila's avatar

Thanks for all you do, Beto!

Lindy's avatar

Thank you for all your hard work! Go Texas!

Bogmanoc's avatar

Love Crockett but Talarico’s uplifting rhetoric is the perfect antidote to Trump era - heralding the rise of the Christian Left - grounded in Christian values not doctrine or specific religious beliefs.

Damn straight.....
